Who We Are
The Friends of Holbrook Island Sanctuary
The Friends of Holbrook Island Sancturary is a non-profit, all-volunteer group that supports and promotes Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park. It was founded in 1995.
We are a dedicated group of volunteers who work closely with the Park Manager, Charlie Cannon, and the State Bureau of Parks and Lands, much like “Friends” groups in Maine and other states.
Our initial and primary purpose has been the promotion, preservation and maintenance of the Park. Our role changes with the times, and we always have new ideas on how to make the Park better.
Every summer, we hire two interns who live, learn, and work in the Park. They are your ambassadors to the Holbrook Island Sanctuary. They meet and greet by land and sea, do miles of maintenance ,and conduct many of our educational programs.
We sponsor educational programs such as edible and medicinal plant walks, vernal and tidal pool exploration, and mushroom walks. And of course, we always make sure there are musical events in the Park.
The Friends publish a periodic newsletter, called the Goosefeathers Gazette, and we also fund the printing and design of all brochures in the Park.
Every donor is a Friend of Holbrook Island Sanctuary.
Your generous, tax-deductible donations help us to maintain trails and facilities, fund activities, support the Park ranger, and much more.
Help us realize our mission and consider making a tax-deductible contribution today.
Thank you!
